The Story
For the room where the dress code is implied.
The Diplomate is the charcoal grey suit of the line. A heavyweight Italian wool, half-canvas and soft-shouldered, single-breasted with a clean peak lapel.
We named it for the daytime — for the civil ceremony, the registry, the lunch where the dress code is implied rather than printed. Charcoal is older than black for this purpose. It was the colour of the men who wintered on the coast a century ago, when the south of France was where the rest of Europe came to be quiet.
Three fittings. Buttonholes are sewn by hand. The trouser waistband is hand-built — cut wider than standard, in the same cloth as the trouser interfacing. The trouser is full at the thigh, narrow at the cuff.
It is the suit you wear when the day is the ceremony.
